☿ artist's statement
These images are very personal experiments in emotive portraiture photography over the last few years. I can post photos others have took of me here in this gallery, sure, but I prefer to use my own domain to have full reign of my own free will. I have always identified most with powerful imagery embedded with subtle symbolism while overflowing with moving statements. The act of creation itself is important to me, yet seemingly and thankfully in a different way than it is to most.
I would like for this page to properly convey my own dedication to all aspects involved in memorable and timeless image generation. Set building, wardrobe styling, makeup artistry, theater learned lighting techniques, playing the complex roles of both model and eye of the finicky camera. I am a one woman army of ravenous neophytes holding myself accountable for multiple duties at once, all while facing inevitable defeat with a certain graceful singularity. In these assorted challenges and outright disasters, I've deduced that freak accidents can sometimes be a beautiful thing.
Doing this all on a shoestring budget since I was a teenage rapscallion with outdated equipment makes this all just an expensive, seemingly frivolous little hobby; but this is in fact my own very defiant act of self-preservation. Vain some may say, but one only has so much precious time to capture the fleeting flower in full bloom before the smooth petals start to wither and fall away. I am and will always be grateful to have these snapshots frozen in time to remind me of who I was at each captured moment, and how much I have grown and evolved since.
To my howlingly sensitive old soul, these are much more than just simple photographs. They are small relics of the shattering defeat of cowering inadequacies, but most notably; the delicate promise and divine wonderment of constant, fearless progression. In short, I did indeed forbid myself to become tedious to my own restless mind and to remain perpetually creative and innovative until the harrowing end.
I sincerely do hope you enjoy gazing into the mirror of my spirit and daringly delving into the unfathomable dark depths of my heart through these very intimate portraits.
